Family Style Tutoring
The MDTS Schoolhouse is a community after-school learning center for K-12. The Schoolhouse will replace our Family Division private tutoring. MDTS now offers centralized, customized personal tutoring in the newly decorated Schoolhouse suite at our MDTS office.
Private Tutoring
Subjects. Mrs. Dowd's Teaching Service provides private tutoring for students K-12 in Math, English, Science, Foreign Languages, SAT Preparation, Study Skills, and Organization.
Service. MDTS works with students, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors to provide the best education possible.
Assessments. Each Schoolhouse student will be assessed for strengths and academic targets. After meeting with Ms. Colleen Hooker, Director of Schoolhouse Tutoring, family’s be know the structure and emphasis of MDTS’s recommended learning strategy.
Ratios. Small Group tutoring will have a ratio of only 4 students to 1 teacher. Private tutoring is available for even more concentrated one-to-one teaching. Private tutoring is often requested for preparation for tests like the SAT, Advanced Placement exams, HSA tests, or high school entrance exams.
Hours. Schoolhouse hours are Monday - Friday, 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.
Schedule. Schoolhouse tutoring sessions will last 2 hours. The first hour will be in Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Thinking Skills, Grammar, Phonics, etc.). The next half-hour will be in Math. The final half-hour will be specific, targeted homework help. If a student needs more help in Math than in Language Arts, the time table will reverse those subjects.
Curriculum. Schoolhouse tutoring will use extensive MDTS resources tailored to dovetail with each student’s learning style. Schoolhouse will also use these resources to enhance homework comprehension and completion. See What Do We Teach?
